This application form is for those wishing to apply ONLY as a STEM Nova Counselor. If you are applying as both a STEM Nova Counselor and a Supernova Mentor, use the Supernova Mentor Application instead.

Unit Type


The council advancement committee requires that each counselor view the training document titled STEM Counselor/Counselor Training.

To qualify as a STEM Nova Counselor, you must
  • Be at least 21 years old and of good character.
  • Be registered with the Boy Scouts of America (position code 58).
  • Complete Youth Protection training for the level(s) you will counsel.
  • Want to help Scouts develop a love of Science and Learning.
  • Be able to work with Scout-age youth.
As a STEM Nova Counselor, I agree to
  • Follow the requirements of the awards, making no deletions or additions, ensuring that the advancement standards are fair and uniform for all Scouts.
  • Have a Scout accompanied by his or her buddy during all instructional sessions.
  • Keep my Youth Protection training current.
  • Renew my registration annually if I plan to continue as a STEM Nova Counselor.
